Valley Forge Show
We are here at the Valley Forge show. The public is being let in at 5:00 pm, so I have some time to kill. Our stop yesterday to look at an unopened collection turned out to be pretty disappointing. The person had a couple hundred wax boxes from the early 1980's until 1990. There was lots of 1982 Topps, 1983 Topps and 1984 Donruss. We can always use these products and the boxes were as clean as could be. HOWEVER, when we lifted the lids to start inspecting the packs we noticed that the boxes had loose cards piled in the boxes and not sealed packs! It looked like someone opened the packs in the year of issue and just then put the cards back into the boxes. Ugggg. We did find some boxes that were full of packs, but of course most of those turned out to be the 1988-1990 era. So I made him an offer of around $4000.00 for everything. This was pretty much our listed buy prices, so our offer was close to where we had to be and couldn't have much movement. The customer was shocked to say the least. His response was that "I've got $18,000 into the storage unit alone over the last 15 years." Unfortunately, the storage fees were something I couldn't really help him with!! So we got back into the truck and got on our way. These things happen sometimes, but it's just part of the business. Will let you know how the show was later tonight. Steve
